Why Your Small Business Needs a Blog

If you’re a coach, a solopreneur or small business owner, you’re probably wondering if you need a blog.  In fact, there’s a good chance the thought of blogging makes you throw up a little.  After all, you hate writing.  You don’t think anyone cares what you have to say.  And, you don’t have the time to blog anyway.

Sorry to burst your bubble…but, yes, your small business needs a blog.

And, here’s why:

You’ll be seen as thought leader.

Potential customers respond to leadership. You can use your blog to show that you’re an expert in your industry. As a result, those potential customers will likely become paying customers.

To do this, take your time and write in-depth articles that offer your readers some “news they can use.” Be sure to write with some frequency to show your readers that you’re on top of changing trends.

Take some time to write some in-depth blog posts about things that excite you.  These things will likely excite your customers as well.

If you’re a restaurant, write about the importance of sourcing local ingredients.  If you’re a photographer, give some insight into how you achieve good lighting.  If you’re a coach, share some confidence-boosting tips.

If you can position yourself as a thought leader, you’ll grow your business exponentially.

You’ll be visible in the search engines.

A blog can be a great alternative to online advertising – especially if you don’t have a budget.  Online advertising can be expensive. But, organic search traffic from Google is free.

You may need to spend some time reading up on search engine optimization. But having a blog can give you the boost in Google rankings you’ve been looking for.

You’ll increase your social media following.

Blogging is a really easy way to get discovered on social media. Every time you write a post, you’re creating a piece of content that people can easily share on Facebook and other social media platforms. As a result, you’ll expose your business to an audience of people who may not even know you exist.

Plus, all it takes is one piece of viral content to put your business on the map.

Having a blog for your small business is a great way to increase your social media following and reach new customers.

You’ll grow your email list.

If you’re a coach, solopreneur or small business owner, you absolutely, positively must have an email list.  Social media platforms can change their algorithms. So can search engines. But you OWN your email list. And, having a blog is a great way to grow your email list.

If your website visitors enjoy your blog content, chances are they’ll sign up for your email newsletter. Include email signup forms at the end of every blog post.
